Green River Titans vs. Halo FC

Green River Titans vs. Halo FC
3-3, this is how the match ended for the monday Green River team, it was frought with bad decisions from both teams and the referee. This however should never totally influence the game and so, Green river titans were tasked with playing, not shouting. Abu Bilal, an international student from Tanzania scored what could be already Green Rivers best goal yet. The team was good and attacked and defended well, one area of concern is physicallity. GRC need a lesson or two on how to make personal space no longer an issue and defend right up against the opposition player. The match ended at 3-3 with Shad scoring two beautiful goals.

Green river (Monday team) vs. QuoteWizard FC

New season, new team but same winning style.

Green River started off the match very strong, maybe because they won a championship last quarter at Starfire? Anyhow, the first goal came from Abu in the first half, a lovely pass on from Kazu enabled Abu to slot the shot into the lower right hand corner of the goal net. Not one single team member of the opposite side could comprehend our attack and defence, our goalkeeper Sam Vlah had very little to do in the match, but commanded the team to a 4-0 victory with Shad scoring and Bonus with a double. Can anyone stop this team from winning yet another tournament? (The team roster will be up soon!)

Goal scorers:

  • Shad Loa (1 goal)
  • Bonus (2 goals)
  • Abu Bakar (1 goal)

Green River Semi-Finals

Team 1

Team 1 entered the match prepared, with the sight on the final just there, Team 1 could not help themselves but score 5 goals in the first half. Ivar and Shad both scoring beautiful consequtive goals for Green River.  The first half ended with the green river team on top of the opposite team (Xelaju) in most ways.

Second half

The second half started with a surprising twist, Xelaju took it upon themselves to attack a lazy Green River team, 6-5 to Xelaju. Green River were shell shocked, but, through wit and a wake up call, Shad, Ivar and mustafa with a lovely half volley, secured Team 1 Green River with a place in the finals. 10-7 to Green River team 1.

Team 2 started off their match on the backfoot, the whole first half saw GRCFC 2’s not cope well with the physical pressure placed upon them from the opposite team. It looked as if the match was done, but fast forward to the second half and GRCFC team 2 did wonders and scored goal after goal to come back in an awesome comeback. Sadly, via the golden goal rule in extra time, Green River team 2 lost the match, some scary calls from the referee did not help either. Riki, Bonus and Kazu scoring goals this match with precision.

Green River one step closer to playoffs

Green River 1 started off strong, with Shad and Luuk both scoring twice in the first 10/15 minutes against their opponents, coming off from their recent win against GRC team 2, they looked like nothing would stop them this game. A slightly weird game, a phantom goal from Koonwah meant that the referee’s didnt count all of Green River 1’s goals. the match ended at 11-3 to Green River 1, with Ivar adding goals in the match too.

  • Ivar Stubbard (3)
  • Mustafa Alqaysi
  • Luuk van Kessel (2)
  • Juan Gonzalez
  • Dylan Roozendaal
  • Shad Loa (5)

Green River Team 2, bitter off their last loss against Green River Team 1, went into this match trying to prove a point. The defense was solid, the players were playing like a team, and only one lapse of concentration meant that they conceded only one goal. A tight defense also needs a quick and opening attack, and thats just what they did. Riki scoring along with Phat and bonus in the first half saw the quick victory already for GRC 2. The second half was the same, no let up and it seemed like GRC 2 were just warming up. Steven and Mohammed both scored fabulous goals to make the score 10-1 at the end of half time.

Green River Teams Outplay Their Opponents

Green River  Team #1 played Los Atticos.  From the start, the match was very one sided, with Green River were dominating.  They did not let go of their lead at any time during the game. Shad once again scored his very own hat trick, with Ivar delivering 5 lovely goals of his own.  Luuk (2 goals) and Mustafa (1 goal) also contributed to the total.

The first half and second half were both painful for Los Atticos as GRC did not let up.  Even our own goalkeeper joined in, running up the pitch to score 2 goals for his own record! (Thank you Dylan)

Green River Team #2 played against Xelaju,

Green River #2 were second in the league, meaning that a win against league leaders would put our very own Gator Nation at the top of the Starfire league! The match was difficult from the get go, with both teams vying for a quality possession in order to score.  Alas, Xelaju scored 3 goals in succession much to the dismay of the fans of GRC. Thankfully, Green River #2 picked themselves up after the shocking start with Riki and Bonus combining to level the playing field.

Second Half.

The second half was also 50/50, no one knew which team was going to win.  Through great passing play and an even better defense, Riki, Mohammed and Kazu all scored to win the game with a final score of 9 goals to 7.

An amazing feat of pure football skills, Green River Teams #1 and #2 are now in the top 2 positions in the league. The next game will be Green River #1 vs. Green River #2. I hope you will join this match for it will determine the league leader!

Green River Fustal, A Win & A Loss

Green River Team #1 started off against the league leaders, Xelaju, a hard match before it even started.  The opponent was already up 2-0 in the first 10 minutes.  Team #1 was not able to gather defensively quick enough to stop Xelaju and suffered a few goals before the half ended.  Thankfully, Shad and Ivar managed to grab a few goals themselves to lift the team’s spirits as the 2nd half loomed.

Second half

Attacking from the get go, Luuk, Shad and Ivar once again scored some spectacular goals to catch up to the league leaders.  This was a good response with the only intention of winning. Unfortunately, Green River became lax and failed to keep focus. Resulting in a 12-8 loss to Xelaju .

  • Mustafa Alqaysi
  • Luuk van Kessel (1)
  • Juan Gonzalez

Second half
Green River seemed to get better through their halftime break. With a few words of advice, Riki, Phat and Bonus ran rampant through the Seattle Fiji FC defense.  With our outstanding keeper making quality saves, it is no wonder the match ended at 8-5 to Green River. Nothing much to say except that they should be even more ready for next weeks game against Xelaju.

Another round of indoor soccer

On Jan. 28th,  Team #1 played a team called Seattle Fiji FC, which was lower down on the league table.  Green River #1 dominated pretty much from the get go. Shad, Mustafa and Ivar all made goal scoring headlines in this match. The team looked much more ready this time, playing well together now and looking more solid in the defensive areas of the game. The attacking play was near perfect, with 5 goals by Ivar as well as Shad and Mustafa both scoring twice.  The team seemed to happily shoot goal after goal. There was one own goal on the opponents part, increasing the scoring line to 10 goals.  Green River won the match easily.

Team 2 were up against the league leaders, FC Huracanes, who prevailed against Green River Team 1 last week.  Where the Team #1 Gators failed to beat them; Team #2 Gators came back stronger this time, winning the match in style. Riki with an astonishing 6 goals, and Kazu, Mohammed, Bonus and Phat also scoring in a game that ended only good for Green River soccer. The attacking play was awesome, but it was the defense that saved the day.  Shun and Hiroya combined with the new permanent goalkeeper for the winter season (Sam Vlah) to make sure that the goals were kept down to seven for a 12-7 to GRC victory.

Green River College – Futsal Game

Team 1 kicked off against the league leaders, FC Huracanes, being 3rd themselves in the league. This was going to be a hard fought match, and it was. Green River seemed to have the start under control with the addition of 2 goals, one from Shad and then Luuk. The opponent had no problem scoring 2 back and then a third and fourth leaving it at 4-2 at half time.

Second half.

The second half started and the match was still unpredictable.  No one knew which side would win, and with Green River catching up to 5-4, it seemed that the match could possibly end in a draw. The experience of being the league leaders and the number of players on their team, FC Huracanes managed to scrape together a win against Green River, winning by 8-6.  They certainly were lucky to get the win from an interesting match.

Team 2’s match saw them playing against a team, Los Atticos, that was lower in the league standings. This counted for nothing as Green River Team 2 pretty much controlled the whole match with a few small scares here and there. Oh, and also one wonder goal that wasn’t counted! Lame.

Team 2 saw energy and attack, with no need to focus on defence because of our possession.  Riki, Bonus and Kazu all put their names on the scoresheet.  Riki with 5 goals in one match!  The score at halftime was 3-1 to the Gators, with the full time score at 7-5 to Green River! Moving them up the table promptly.

One win, one loss

Green river teams 1 & 2 were ready for their next match, both coming off from two good wins in their previous matches.

Team 1 came under heavy pressure at the start, their attack made them very aggressive into our back lines, leaving wide gaps for them to pass through. Green River started to gain territory back,  Shad scoring first with a lovely finish into the net, with Luuk and Kyle following behind in goal scoring. The half came to an end and 5 minutes of time was given to the players to rest.

Second half.

With more goals than the opponent, Green River looked like they had the match in their hands. Ivar and Koonwah now joining the goal scoring. The other team tried to match and put more pressure on the GRC team, but could not quite catch up, due to the quickness of the Green River team. The match ended at 9-6 to GRC.

Green River start off the winter quarter in winning style

Green River Soccer Winter16

Both Green River teams enjoying their season opening wins

Both Green River teams started their winter season with a hard attitude.
Team 1…
were dominating from the start, a stylish backheel goal from Ivar, and an interesting couple runs from Dylan Roozendaal ensured that the first half belonged to Green River. The opponent did make a couple runs into the GRC defence with the success of one goal, leaving the first half at 4-1.
Half time
Second half became intense, with lack of fitness and not enough subs the opponent managed to catch up quickly, but Green River kept scoring more than the opponent could handle and the match ended at 7-6 to the Gators
