It seems the cold and wet weather of Tuesday mirrored the ending of the Summer League for Green River FC. With 2 losses, the team dropped to 6th place out of a total of 8 teams.
The final game of the season was another close loss, with a final score of 5 – 4. The reasons behind the consecutive losses to end the season are easy to point out.
- The team lost several players over the course of the season due to students finishing classes and returning home for the summer break.
- Playing as individuals instead of a cohesive team. With only 6 games together, teamwork will come with more experience. Fall should provide a fresh start with more opportunities develop a team chemistry.
- A lack of communication. With players from a number of different countries, English is the 2nd, 3rd or even 4th language for many players. Communicating always takes extra effort, but doing it in a foreign language is even more difficult. With practice, communication will become second nature.
Overall, the season was a successful one. Everyone learned from the experience, and the team had a lot of laughs and made some great friends along the way. Everyone is looking forward to what Fall will bring. Adding new faces to familiar ones, creating more friendships and memories, and building a stronger, more competitive team is the goal.
